Food Safety Training

Onsite Feeding Programs

Onsites are required to complete Allegheny County Health Department or equivalent certification (ServSafe). The Food Bank will pay for two individuals to be re-certified once every five years. To register for a training, follow the steps below: please contact your network compliance coordinator at 412-460-3663 or by email.

  • Visit Allegheny County Health Department’s website to view training dates.
  • Select a training date.
  • Download the registration form and clearly print all required information.
  • Email the registration form to your network compliance coordinator.
  • Await confirmation from your network compliance coordinator that you are registered for the appropriate training.
  • If you reside outside of Allegheny County and wish to take a ServSafe training instead, please contact your network compliance coordinator directly to schedule the training.

Food Pantries

Food pantries are required to watch a series of videos developed by the Food Bank and take a short knowledge quiz. This training can only be completed online and the certifications are valid for three years. Please follow the steps below to complete or renew your certification:

You will know automatically if you passed or failed the test. Those who fail the test may take it again at any time, and those who pass will receive a certificate in the mail within one month of the test date.

How to find out if your certification is current:

  • All agencies can check their food safety status on the Agency Portal by clicking on My Agency in the top right-hand corner of the page, then by clicking the Contacts tab
  • Feel free to call your coordinator with questions
