National Call-in Day Today!

A committee in the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed their version of the Child Nutrition Reauthorization bill – a bill that looks at federal programs that feed children including school meals, summer food, after-school programs and WIC. The House version of the bill has several harmful provisions, including a proposal to pilot block granting of school meals.

Read more about why the Food Bank opposes this bill and why block grants are harmful.

We need YOUR help. Please take a few minutes today to tell your member of Congress that block granting is a bad idea.

Calling Congress is easy. Here’s what to do:

1. Dial the toll-free number (888) 398-8702 and listen to the pre-recorded message.

2. Enter your zip code. Once you are connected to the office of your member of Congress, tell them your name and the town you are calling from and tell them you live in the district (they may ask for your full address).

3. Then tell them you are calling about Child Nutrition Reauthorization and deliver this message:

“I am calling to ask the Representative to oppose any effort to block grant child nutrition programs like school meals. Block grants limit critical funding to schools and threaten access meals that help children grow and learn. I am asking that the Representative oppose House Bill 5003. Thank you for your time.”

Phone calls are very influential, but if you’re too busy for a call, send a tweet to your member of Congress instead (or in addition to your call!). Make sure to tag your Representative in the tweet. Find your Representative here.

Oppose efforts to block grant school meals. Kids need nutrition to grow and learn. #constituent #stoptheblock #CNR2016   TWEET THIS!
