Did you know that we have amazing people running for us in the Pittsburgh Marathon? We do! To get everyone motivated in the final days leading up to the race on May 3, we would like to share some of our runners’ stories.
If you are a runner, you will relate to each story. But even if you aren’t, these dedicated folks will inspire you. Who knows, maybe you will run on our behalf in next year’s race!
This is the sixth in a series of daily runner stories featured on the blog all this week – leading up to the race on Sunday!
How long have you been running?
How many years have you been running for the Food Bank in the Pittsburgh Marathon?
First time running for the Food Bank.
What motivates you to run?
I love to exercise and I started running because my husband wanted to start. We started out by walking 1 mile a day for two weeks and added on from there. This will be my first full marathon. I’ve done 3 half-marathons (all in Pittsburgh). I love running the Pittsburgh marathon events – it is great having all those strangers root for you. Signing up for those long races keeps me motivated and on schedule. I know I need to go out and run in the cold otherwise I won’t be ready!
Why have you decided to run for the Food Bank?
I wasn’t sure I could run a marathon but was thinking about it. I decided if I committed to raising money that would force me to follow through. I chose the Food Bank because I like to support charities that are doing local work and I want everyone to have access to healthy food. I also chose the Food Bank because my friend Beci Russell ( our Community Engagement and Volunteer Coordinator) works there and I want to support the work that she does because she is awesome!
