D.B. Root, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Tee Off Against Hunger
Pittsburgh Firm to Host 9th Annual Golf S.O.M.E. Event
PITTSBURGH (September 15, 2015)—D.B. Root & Company, one of Pittsburgh’s largest independent wealth management and financial planning firms, is helping Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank tee off against hunger by hosting a joint golf outing Monday, Sept. 21, 2015 at Longue Vue Club in Verona.
“Our team at D.B. Root is focused on creating stability and security to help our clients achieve financial independence,” said Founder and CEO David Root. “Partnering with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to increase food security for working families, seniors, children and veterans in southwestern Pennsylvania who struggle to meet a basic human need is work that truly aligns with our commitment to the community.”
D. B. Root joins the Food Bank and its other corporate sponsors for its 9th Annual Golf S.O.M.E. (So Others May Eat) event. All proceeds from the golf outing benefit the Food Bank, supporting its mission of feeding children, seniors and families in southwestern Pennsylvania who face food insecurity.
“One in seven people in our region faces hunger,” said Lisa Scales, president & CEO of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. “I am thankful for the dedication and commitment of D.B. Root leadership and employees to raise funds through Golf S.O.M.E. and for the hours they spend personally packing food in our warehouse. Last year alone, D.B. Root’s outstanding efforts helped provide nearly 134,000 meals to people in our community. We can’t wait to see the results of their work this year.”
The Golf Course at Longue Vue Club designed by Robert White in the classic Scottish style course offers a wide range of tees to provide a challenge for players of all levels. The course features fast, subtle greens, rolling fairways, and striking views of the Allegheny River and has hosted both state championships and national qualifiers.
The golf outing begins at 9 a.m. with registration, which includes golf with cart, lunch, a putting contest, beverages throughout the day, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction, held during the cocktail hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Plenty of prizes will be awarded, featuring gift certificates, getaways, autographed sports items and gift baskets.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Among this year’s corporate sponsors are Giant Eagle, Ivy, Peoples Natural Gas, Dollar Bank, Gateway Financial, Wells Fargo, Guardian, RS Investments, Alliance Bernstein, Columbia, Federated Investors, John Hancock, Principal and Sweetwater. Those who cannot participate this year on the links, but still want to contribute, can also become individual sponsors.
