Be a Food Bank Hero. Turn your miles into meals!
By participating in a Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon event in support of Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (the Food Bank) you join our mission to feed people in need and mobilize the community to eliminate hunger.
The Run for a Reason charity program helps participating charities raise funds and awareness for their cause, and inspires runners to engage their friends and families for the greater good of the community.
There are many ways to fundraise to ensure all of our neighbors have enough. One of our neighbors is Lenore, who comes to a pantry with her husband to get food for their family. They have two sons — one is in high school and their 22-year old has autism and lives at home.
Several years ago, after 25 years as an engineer, Lenore’s husband was downsized from his company and unable to find another full-time job. They went through all their savings and paid the penalty to use their 401k. Lenore and her husband did everything they could to stay above water, including working with the mortgage company to stay in their Swissvale home — the home Lenore grew up in.
Now both Lenore and her husband have part-time jobs. The jobs help, but there were still times when they had no food in the house, and the Food Bank and supporters like you were there to help. The marathon is a great way to use your passions for running and ending hunger to assist our neighbors, like Lenore and her family, through hard times and on to better ones.
Depending on what event you participate in, your pre-set fundraising goal is between $50 and $550; every $1 raised provides enough food for five meals.
