Scouting for Foods

Scouting for Food – for more than 20 years the Boy Scouts of America-Greater Pittsburgh Council have made April Scouting for Food Month. More than 6,000 Boy Scouts hand out grocery bags to their neighbors, schools, congregations and civic groups, and pick them up when they’re full. All over southwestern Pennsylvania, the food goes back to local communities where it was collected. Pittsburgh’s conscientious corporations also participate by sponsoring supplies, hosting their own food drives, or the latest development: having a Virtual Food Drive. No cans to haul or store, just click and drag that food to your shopping cart and paying securely online! (and cash donations are tax deductible!) And don’t forget: Pirates Opening Day at PNC Park is Scouting for Food Day – if every baseball fan brought two cans of food, the Food Bank could provide more than 70,000 meals to the hungry – so don’t forget those cans!
