CHOPSM: Choosing Healthy Options

CHOP is a comprehensive program developed by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to promote the acquisition, distribution, and consumption of healthier food.

CHOP ranks food based on nutrient content by assigning points for healthy nutrients and deducting points for unhealthy nutrients to give a balanced look at a nutrition label. The Food Bank also relies on CHOP to bring in the most nutritious food possible to distribute to our agencies.

CHOP rankings follow an easy formula and can be used to educate all those involved in emergency food solicitation and distribution, as well as food recipients. Foods are ranked 1, 2, 3 or MC (minimal contribution) with 1 being the highest rating a food can receive.

Rank your favorite foods according to CHOP to see how this program works!
