CHOP: Choosing Healthy Options
CHOP is a comprehensive program developed by Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to promote the acquisition, distribution, and consumption of healthier food.
CHOP ranks food based on nutrient content and teaches agencies to use the ranks to make healthy choices when ordering product. The Food Bank also relies on CHOP to bring in the most nutritious food possible to distribute to our agencies.
CHOP rankings follow an easy formula and can be used to educate all those involved in emergency food solicitation and distribution, as well as food recipients. Foods are ranked 1, 2, 3 or MC (minimal contribution) with 1 being the highest rating a food can receive.
