Summer Food Service Programs
Many children receive free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. However those programs end when school ends. The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need. SFSP serves a free nutritious lunch to children, 18 years of age and younger, throughout the summer. Most sites open mid-June and serve meals weekdays through mid-August.

SFSP is a federally funded effort that reimburses organizations for meals served to children during the summer. Schools, churches, recreation centers, playgrounds, parks, and camps can serve meals in neighborhoods with high percentages of low-income families.
