Volunteer
Every time you are tempted to think one person can't make a difference, please know that more than 11,000 individuals, of every age and circumstance, make a huge difference to the Food Bank each year. Without the gift of time and some hands-on help, the Food Bank could not exist.
Volunteers are needed to help with Repack, clerical work, gleaning, special events, food drives, Produce to People, and ways we're sure we haven't even thought of yet. You can choose the activity, the length of time and the location. No matter what your talent, or limitation, we could use your help!
- To register as a volunteer please download a volunteer packet from our online store and complete and return the volunteer application.

Gleaning Volunteers Needed!
Enjoy a few hours on a working farm while helping feed hungry people in our region. Pittsburgh Community Food Bank needs your help to glean, or harvest, fresh fruits and vegetables at local family farms. Gleans last about 3 hours, and take place weekdays, Saturdays, and weekday evenings from July through November. The Food Bank provides training, tools, water and snacks- all you need is transportation to the farm.
We glean at farms near Cranberry, Mars, Wexford, Evans City, Gibsonia, Butler, Beaver Falls, Bridgeville, and even Indiana County-so there's sure to be a farm convenient for you! We welcome individuals, families with children ages 7+, or groups ages 12+.
Ready to get out in the fields? Complete this form to add yourself to the glean volunteer list and we'll send you alerts when the crops are ready to be picked. For more information, contact Stacy Mates, Urban Agriculture Coordinator, at (412) 460-3663 ext 218.
Volunteering has also come in the form of activities people have organized themselves to benefit the Food Bank. If you hold a food drive, you are volunteering. If you create your own event (like Blues for Food or Comedy Relief) you are definitely making a huge contribution. Some supporters held a DVD Night, where they rented the space, suggested a donation, and showed old concert films, donating the proceeds. This kind of outside event is usually welcome. If you have an idea, contact the Development Department. We may have some experience we can share, and/or help you promote your event.
