Get Involved
If we are to end hunger, more people, companies, groups, and governmental representatives must decide to get involved. Think one person can't make a difference? You'd be mistaken. Every day at the Food Bank, and out in the community, people who believe hunger must end are gathering food and funds, volunteering a few hours of their time, attending special events and fundraisers, and working together to change public policy. Every person can help in one way or another – every bit counts - so please help now!
Receive Regular Campaign Updates
Join the mailing list! This is the single most important thing you can do right now. You'll receive our monthly email newsletter, Together We Can, to keep you informed about all the latest events, developments in public policy and other Food Bank news. (We don’t sell or share our email list with anyone.)
Volunteer
The Food Bank needs thousands of volunteers each year. You can work special events, sort food at our warehouse, harvest vegetables at a farm, serve on a committee, or help out at any of our 380 agencies – food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters – through which food is distributed to the most vulnerable people in our area. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, email the volunteer coordinators , or call (412) 460-3663, ext 301.
Organize a Food Drive
The Food Bank distributes about 1.7 million pounds of food every month, so we need all the help we can get gathering it. If you are interested in hosting a food drive, email the Food Drive Coordinator or call her at (412) 460-3663, ext 209, and she will help you make all the arrangements. Download a food drive packet from our online store to get started.
Donate Food
The Food Bank always appreciates donations of food and other grocery items. You can find information about most-needed items and drop off locations on the donate food page.
Be Informed
Did you know that one in seven children living in Allegheny County does not get enough to eat? Did you know that the Food Bank serves more than 120,000 people throughout southwestern PA? When you find out the facts, you’ll want to help end hunger! Download the 2006 Hunger Report from our online store, or better yet, email the Director of Educational Programs to invite someone from the Food Bank to speak to your organization, group or class - or call her at (412) 460-3663, ext 217.
Help Us Change The Future
Ending hunger in this nation is absolutely possible! We have nutrition programs already in place, like Food Stamps and School Lunch programs. But we need to make these proven programs available to ALL those who need them. We need to work together to change public policy, to convince politicians that hunger in America is a disgrace that must end. You can add your voice to the voices of change for the better. To learn more about our advocacy programs, email Dennis, or call him at (412) 460-3663, ext 283.
Make A Donation
At Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, 94 cents out of every dollar donated goes directly to food and services for the hungry. (Download our annual report through the online store.) And our wholesale buying power means we can stretch your dollar five fold! Finally, monetary donations are fully tax deductible. So giving money actually makes good economic sense for you, and helps even more people. You can send a check to GPCFB, 1 N Linden St, Duquesne, PA 15110, or donate securely online!
Thank you again for visiting this website! Thank you for helping your neighbors, for taking a stand against hunger, and for deciding to take action.
