KD Turkey Fund | Calendar List |
KDKA-TV2, PNC Bank and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank have teamed up once again for the 28th annual KD Turkey Fund Drive, which launched October 26th and continues into December. This fund raising effort provides holiday turkeys to more than 45,000 needy families in the KDKA viewing area.
In the fall of 1982 a woman approached KDKA-TV personality Al Julius with a check for $10.00 and said, "Please see that a hungry family gets a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner." Twenty-seven years and more than eleven million dollars later, the KD Turkey Fund is going strong with KDKA-TV’s Yvonne Zanos as spokesperson. Over the years, $10.00 certificates were distributed to more than 926,765 families, but after 24 years, the certificate amount was raised to $15.00 in 2007.
Sponsor PNC Bank has offered to match every donation of $50 or more, made at a PNC Branch office, up to $50,000.
